Pergolas and Gazebos in Crawfordville, FL
Shade structures built to hold up in the Florida climate, from open pergolas to gazebos.
Pergolas and Gazebos in Crawfordville, and what the damp does to it
A shade structure around Crawfordville has to be built for the moisture as much as the sun. Between the coastal humidity and the tree cover, the wood does not dry out the way it would in a drier climate, so the material and how the posts meet the ground decide how long it lasts. Kevin builds pergolas and gazebos here with that in mind, so yours is built for the conditions it will live in.
Crawfordville sits in Wakulla County, where the shade and the Gulf humidity keep the air damp for much of the year. We choose materials and finishes with that in mind.
Pergolas, gazebos, and screened porches extend the part of the year the yard is usable. We build them to handle Florida humidity and sun, with material choices made for the climate rather than the catalog photo.

Pergolas and Gazebos in Crawfordville Questions
Will a pergola hold up in the Florida climate?
It will if it is built for it. Kevin uses material and hardware chosen for full sun and humidity and sets the posts properly, which is the difference between a structure that lasts and one that leans after a few summers.
What is the difference between a pergola and a gazebo?
A pergola is open above, a frame that defines a space and takes the edge off the sun. A gazebo is roofed, something you can sit under in the rain. Kevin builds both to suit the yard and the home.
Does the coastal humidity around Crawfordville change what you use?
Yes. The humidity off the Gulf sits under the tree cover out here and works on any wood that does not get enough sun to dry, faster than it would on a drier lot in town. So we choose materials and hardware made for that kind of moisture, and we build so air can move under and around the wood, which is what gives an outdoor project its best chance of lasting around Crawfordville.
Do you get out to Crawfordville, or is it too far?
Not too far at all. Crawfordville is a regular trip for us and well within the area we cover south of Tallahassee, so getting out to you is rarely a question.
