carpentry services
Cabinetry built to fit exactly, or the cabinets you already bought assembled and installed.
Cabinetry built to the real dimensions of your room closes tight at both ends and makes the most of the space you actually have. That is the real advantage of custom over off-the-shelf. Many homes in Tallahassee are not perfectly square, and older ones can be further out, so stock cabinets can leave narrow gaps along the wall that end up filled with trim and rarely look quite right. Kevin measures and plans each run himself, so it fits the room it is going into.
Built-in cabinetry is where custom carpentry really shows its value. We design and build cabinetry, wardrobes, pantry shelving and wall units to the real dimensions of your room, so they fit tight where stock cabinets leave gaps. The boxes are built from materials chosen to hold up in this climate, which matters more here than in a drier one, because Florida humidity is hard on anything that swells. Doors and drawer fronts are made to match, in paint grade or stain grade, and each run is scribed to the wall so it closes neatly at both ends rather than being packed out with a filler strip. If you have already chosen your cabinets you do not need anyone to build them, only to fit them properly, and that is the same job to us. We assemble RTA cabinets, the flat packed kind that arrive as a stack of panels, and we install pre-built cabinets wherever you bought them. The installation is what decides how the kitchen looks, because the boxes arrive square and almost no wall in an older home is. Uppers are anchored into the studs, bases are shimmed level from the highest point of the floor, and the doors and drawer fronts are set to an even gap all the way along.
Free estimate, detailed and in writing before anything starts.
Send the form or call and tell Amanda whether you want cabinets built or the ones you already bought installed. We get back to you within 24 hours.
Kevin looks at the room in person and works to its real dimensions, since rooms here are rarely perfectly square. Then he prices it and sends a detailed estimate.
Kevin and Lil Kevin anchor the uppers into the studs, shim the bases level from the highest point of the floor and scribe each run to the wall so it closes tight at both ends.
The doors and drawer fronts are set to an even gap all the way along, and we go through every detail with you before we call the job done.
Every job is different. We offer free, no-obligation estimates so you know the price before any work starts.
Older homes turn up the most, but even a newer one can hide something nobody could see at the estimate. That possibility is written into our estimates and proposals, and you sign it before anything starts. So when something does come up, the work stops, Kevin walks you through it, and it becomes a change order you approve, rather than something you find out about afterwards.

You decide before it goes ahead
They gave us a detailed quote and kept us informed every step of the way. There were no surprises from them for hidden costs or additional fees. Everything was extremely transparent.
30+ people have reviewed Lumber Lunatics on Google, and every one of them gave five stars. Here is a sample, in their words.
Kevin came in and assessed everything and had a quote to us within a day or two. They both kept us informed over the 5 work days. Very talented carpenter.
It is clear that Kevin knows what he is doing. It is great to also see a father working with his son to teach him the trade!
This company is a father and son team that does it all! Their work is par excellent. Very professional, honest, dependable, and trustworthy.

Because rooms here are rarely perfectly square. Stock cabinets can leave tapering gaps that end up filled with trim and rarely look right. Built to the real dimensions of the room, cabinetry closes tight on both ends. That is the whole argument for custom.
Wall units, bookcases, pantry systems, window seats, laundry and mudroom storage, and one-off pieces built to fit a specific wall. If it is carpentry and it stores something, Kevin can build it.
Yes, and that is a lot of what Kevin does. If they came assembled, he installs them. If they arrived flat pack, he assembles them first. Either way he hangs them level on a wall that is rarely straight in a room that is rarely square, which is where most self installs go wrong. And if nothing off a shelf fits the space, he builds them from scratch. Three different jobs, three different prices, so tell Amanda which one you have when you call.
Only if it is allowed for before anything gets screwed to the wall. Older walls are out of plumb and newer floors are rarely level, so Kevin shims and scribes so the run reads straight and the countertop does not run downhill.
Yes. Kevin is on every job. His son Lil Kevin works alongside him, and the person who prices your project is the person who builds it. There is no sales rep handing your job to a crew you have never met.
Three of us, and that is the whole company. Kevin and his son Lil Kevin are the two on site, and Amanda handles every call and inquiry. The two of them get through what a crew of four would.
No, Lumber Lunatics works on homes rather than commercial buildings.
Yes. Kevin comes out and looks at the job with you and talks through the options. He does not price it on the spot, because materials and labor have to be worked out properly, so the detailed estimate comes to you afterwards. There is no charge and no obligation.
Cash, check, zelle, and credit cards.
Yes. We provide a workmanship warranty on every project, with the specific terms spelled out in your written proposal before the work begins.
If your project needs major plumbing or electrical work, Kevin will tell you so and recommend you bring in a licensed plumber or electrician. He is not licensed for that work and he is not going to pretend otherwise. You will hear that at the estimate, not halfway through the job.
Yes, Lumber Lunatics is insured on every project.
Scheduling varies based on the scope of your project and our current workload. We will provide our current availability when we discuss your project.
