Door Installation in Havana, keeping what is worth keeping
Doors in the older Havana homes are often not a stock size, and the good ones are frequently worth rehanging rather than replacing. Where a door genuinely has had it, you can match the panel layout and casing to the others on that floor to keep things in step, or update the doors through the whole level so they read as a set. Kevin will tell you which of your doors are worth keeping and fit the replacements to openings that are not standard.
Havana sits about fifteen minutes north of Tallahassee, in Gadsden County, so it is an easy trip for us.
Doors are one of Kevin's specialties. We hang interior and exterior doors, replace entry doors that have swollen or rotted, build sliding barn doors, and fabricate one-off doors for closets and odd openings where nothing off the shelf will fit.

Door Installation in Havana Questions
My door sticks. Is that the door or the frame?
Usually the frame. In older homes the opening was rarely square to begin with, and settling plus Florida humidity swelling the door does the rest. Kevin works out whether it is the door, the frame or the hardware before quoting a fix.
Can you build a door to fit an odd opening?
Yes. When nothing off the shelf fits, Kevin fabricates the door to the opening rather than forcing a standard size in and trimming around the gaps. Hanging and building doors is one of his specialties.
Can this be repaired instead of replaced?
Often, yes, and we will tell you when it is the better choice. Repairing sound wood is usually less expensive than replacing it, so where a repair will do the job we say so, and where you would rather update it we do that instead. It comes down to what you want for the room and what is genuinely sound underneath.
Can you match new work to the existing style of an older home?
Yes. When working on an older home, we take the existing style, trim, dimensions, and details into consideration. When possible, we match or recreate those features so the new work blends naturally with the character of the home.
