Because the homes around Midway are newer, siding work here is more often a repair and a match than a whole-wall replacement. Hardie board is fiber cement rather than wood, which is why it holds up here where wood siding struggles. It does not rot, and termites do not touch it. We replace boards that have failed, cut in new sections where the damage is localized, and re-side whole walls and elevations where the wood is past saving. It does go on differently from wood, though, the board is heavier, it cuts differently, and the courses and fasteners have to be set out carefully, since one row off at the bottom carries all the way up the wall. The trim matters just as much. Corner boards, window and door casings, fascia and frieze all need to be cut and fitted cleanly, because the edges are where any shortcut would show.
